Nihiwatu villas expansion project

pool Nihiwatu Resort is an existing upmarket hideaway ecotourism destination on the Island of Sumba in Eastern Indonesia. The owner of the resort is PT Indonesia Adventure Sports. Nihiwatu Resort encompasses 175 hectare of tropical forest, rice terraces and grasslands. Only 35 acres have been developed as 360 acres are under protection. The resort is wrapped around a white sand two and half kilometer long Nihiwatu beach. This worldclass beach is protected on both ends by cliffs and headlands ensuring total exclusivity for the guests.

Tucked amongst the trees are just seven luxury bungalows, two two-bedroom villas and one three-bedroom villa. The thatched roofed bungalows and villas, hand-built by Indonesian craftsman using local materials, have balcony vistas stretching the full length of the beach the sea and the headlands beyond. Other amenities include an open living and dining room, cliff-top bar, jungle and hilltop spas, yoga pavilion, boat house and bar, horse stables, admin offices and staff housing. Just uphill and overlooking the full length of Nihiwatu beach is a swimming pool area.

by the pool Sitting on an unspoiled paradise in Indonesia, the company intends to further demonstrate a model that successfully combines luxury hospitality, conservation, innovative environmental management systems, and Sumbanese economic, educational and health development. By eschewing the form of development that has often eroded environmental and cultural integrity in favor of a plan that recognizes the interwoven nature of the community, ecosystem, and economy, Nihiwatu is striving to be global model of sustainable development.

To reach its goal of triple-bottom line sustainability, PT Indonesia Adventure Sports felt the need to develop an Ecotourism Master Plan for the 50 hectares allowable development area and detailed architectural conceptual plans for the first phase projects (rental pool villas, bamboo restaurant, arrival experience etc) which are sustainably planned and designed. The intention has been to produce an illustrated development report booklet which is to be used to attract buyers and investors. It is with this in mind that the consultant team prepared this report - Nihiwatu Resort Conceptual Expansion Plan.
